F.A.Q:

What is a Limited Edition Print?

Edition Sizes can be anywhere from 15 to 500. The number of copies printed is kept very low to protect distribution and availability of a particular print by a particular artist. It is very valuable to own a piece of artwork that you thoroughly enjoy that is in limited supply. For example, you could purchase a piece that has a Limited Edition of 150. That means only 150 people in the entire world have the chance to own that particular work of art. A Certificates of Authenticity of each print will be provided to the buyer from the Artist.

Limited Edition Prints are also great to have as the Artists popularity rises, the original should begin to escalate in value, and therefore the limited edition prints may rise in value also, that is a bonus to owning a piece that you enjoy in your home. Limited edition, non-lithographed prints, are sold at major galleries in limited editions internationally at prices ranging from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars to allow people who cannot afford the originals, which cost a great deal more, to enjoy the art of particular painters.

What is a Certificate of Authenticity?

A Certificate of Authenticity is kind of like a pedigree for your fine art print. Many States require that a Certificate of Authenticity accompany a limited edition print.

What is Canvas Giclee Printing?

The Definition: Giclee (zhee-klay) - The French word "giclée" is a feminine noun that means a spray or a spurt of liquid. The word may have been derived from the French verb "gicler" meaning "to squirt".

The Term: The term "giclee print" connotes an elevation in printmaking technology. Images are generated from high resolution digital scans and printed with archival quality inks onto various substrates including canvas, fine art, and photo-base paper. The giclee printing process provides better color accuracy than other means of reproduction.

The Process: Giclee prints are created typically using professional 8-Color to 12-Color ink-jet printers. Among the manufacturers of these printers are vanguards such as Epson, MacDermid Colorspan, & Hewlett-Packard. These modern technology printers are capable of producing incredibly detailed prints for both the fine art and photographic markets.

The Quality: The quality of the giclee print rivals traditional silver-halide and gelatin printing processes and is commonly found in museums, art galleries, and photographic galleries.

How should I care for my fine art print?

Although your fine art print is made with the finest materials available, and comes with a semi-gloss UV protective coating, you’ll want to take reasonable care to insure that you are able to enjoy it for many years to come.  Even a properly framed print should be protected from exposure to direct sunlight and extremes in temperature and humidity. A frame that is exposed to direct sun and external heat sources like furnace vents and fireplaces can expand and break the seals that protect your fine art print.

Rapid changes in temperature and humidity can also cause condensation, which may stain the print and promote the growth of mold. Even moderate changes in temperature and humidity can occasionally cause your print to buckle. This should correct itself when the conditions return to normal.
